3 Easy Ways to Get New Email Subscribers

Written By Melissa Carrick

We know that email isn’t the most fun marketing topic but it does lead to some of the best ROI. Even though customers will complain that they have 2,876 unread emails, it is still one of their preferred channels for communication from brands. So, if your email list is stuck at a standstill or you’re just getting started, here are three easy ways to get those new email subscribers and keep them!

  1. Make it exclusive

People don’t like to commit. Not to just anything. As we know, people like incentive and everyone loves free things. Think about rewarding them just for their sign up with a free item. But not only that, when they join your email club, they’ll get a new free offer every week. Now you’re gaining new subscribers and you’re retaining them too! Chances are when they come into your business to redeem the free item, they’ll shop around and end up with a bigger basket size than usual.

Customers also love personalization. Sure, your email will be full of the content you want to share, but what can make it personal and exclusive to your shopper?

There’s nothing I love more than opening my emails during my birthday month and seeing all the specials just for me. Free this, discount that, special offer here and there. All you have to do is ask customers for their birthday when they sign up and treat them to something special once a year to make them feel appreciated.

2. Tap into social media

If you’re not cross promoting your email list on all of your channels, you’re missing out on a huge part of your audience. Your social media followers follow you for a reason. They’re interested in what you’re sharing. So they may be interested in signing up for your email too. It doesn’t hurt to ask with a simple email sign up post every once in a while with a direct link to your form.

And if they need a little more in return for their email address, we recommend doing a simple giveaway following the Facebook or Instagram guidelines. Ask customers to sign up for your email list and in return enter them to win a product from your business. It’s a win-win!

3. Make it easy

Help your customers help you. Do you have in-store signage with QR codes to sign up? Is your form mobile optimized? Is it asking for their name, email, birth certificate and an arm and a leg just to get signed up? Remember, the average attention span of a human is 8 seconds. In those 8 seconds you have to capture their attention and keep it. So…

  • Make your in-store signage graphically appealing

  • Promote exclusive offers for sign up

  • Don’t ask for too much on your sign-up form

Let us help!

We hope people sign up for your email because they love your brand, they are excited to see your content and they shop with you all the time. But the truth is, a lot of us need some motivation. So try out a new offer, reach your audience where they are and don’t make things harder than they have to be.
